3D New Years Countdown 4.0

If you’re anxiously awaiting New Years and you want to know precisely how much time is left until New Years, then get the aptly named application 3D New Years Countdown. The first thing you need to know about this application is that it is a screensaver. The second thing you need to know is that there’s a Windows version and a Mac OS X version as well. We’ll focus on the Windows version here.

Getting the Windows version off the web and installing it on your computer will complete in no time at all. Once you’re done downloading and installing the screensaver, you can use it free of charge, but only for a trial period 3 days. It’s not much, but should be enough time for you to figure out if you want to pay for a license or not. While using the trial version you will see registration reminders.

What does the 3D New Years Countdown screensaver display? It kicks in when your computer goes idle and display a countdown to New Years. At the time of writing this the countdown says there are 310 days, 10 hours, 35 minutes and 13 seconds until New Years.

Various items keep falling from above. By default clocks and hourglasses keep falling from above. You can have other items fall from above: poinsettias, hears and sparkles. If the falling items are distracting, or if you plain don’t like them, you can disable them by selecting Settings -> Falling Stuff -> Type -> None. If you favor one itema above another, you can set it so the screensaver displays just that one item. If you like them all, select Mixed and you will see all of them fall down from above.

From the Settings menu you can adjust the size, number, and velocity of the falling items.

While the 3D New Years Countdown screensaver runs, it plays a ticking sound in the background. You can adjust the volume of the ticking sound, or if you don’t like it, you can mute it. Alternatively you can set it up so the screensaver plays your own tracks. Click the “Play Your Music” button and follow the instructions presented there.

From the Settings menu you can also adjust the screensaver’s tint.
